Game Creation in Youth Media and Information Literacy Education

چکیده

ThisarticlepresentsthepreliminaryfindingsofGamiLearning(2015-2018),aresearchprojectthat aimstopromotecriticalandparticipativedimensionsofMediaandInformationLiteracy(MIL)in childrenthroughthecreationofdigitalgames.Theprojectpresentsaninnovativeapproachbyarguing thatMILcanbepromotedthroughtheprocessofcreationanddevelopmentofvideogames.Students ages9to14yearsoldfromPortugalandAustin,Texas(USA)participatedinthestudy.whichincluded an intervention at school,was based on a constructivist/project-based approach.Fieldworkwas conductedatfourschoolsandaMILquestionnairewasused,basedinatheoreticalframework,and wereadministeredbeforeandaftertheproject’sintervention.Resultsfromthefourschoolsindicate statisticallysignificantdifferencesbetweenpreandpostquestionnaires,consideringMILskillsin general,andinseveralgroupsofskills,namelyOperationalSkills,EditorialSkills,DigitalIdentity ManagementSkills,CriticalMediaLiteracy,LearningandSocialInteraction.
